Research areas of interest are physical phenomena relevant to compressible flows, including multiphase flow, gas dynamics, fluid‑structure interaction, aero‑acoustics, or related topics, investigated with numerical, experimental, or combined methods.The University Professorship (W3) “Compressible Flows” provides a fundamental‑research‑oriented focus alongside the applied research at the Institute of Thermal Turbomachinery (ITS) in the field of turbomachinery and its use in energy technology and aviation.As a member of the collegial management team of the Institute, the selected candidate is expected to drive the strategic development of the existing research portfolio within the context of the energy transition. In doing so, the future holder of the position will be visible with his/her own independent, internationally recognized research program. The professor will also contribute to the industry collaborations already established at ITS, for example within the Rolls‑Royce University Technology Center (UTC).University tasks with a teaching obligation of 9 hours per week per semester are associated with the position. Within this obligation, undergraduate courses in the field of thermofluid dynamics for the Bachelor programs Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering (International) shall be delivered in English and, in the medium term, also in German. In addition, the professor is expected to offer research-oriented advanced courses in the aforementioned bachelor's programs as well as in the master's programs of the KIT Department of Mechanical Engineering.
